Area Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Police say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then located many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the substance was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.
An important official said the incident rendered him without words and had to be resolved quickly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
