Sean “Diddy” Combs is scheduled to appear a federal court judge in New York City this Friday for sentencing subsequent to his guilty verdict this year on federal counts involving prostitution.

Jury Decision

Following the two-month court case that concluded in this past July, jurors cleared Combs of the top-level charges of human trafficking and racketeering conspiracy. Jurors, though, find him guilty on two charges of transporting persons for commercial sex acts.

Judge Subramanian is now tasked with the job of setting the penalty. The hearing is scheduled to commence at 10am eastern time.

Legal Context

The accusations against Combs of coercing two ex-partners into sexual situations involving drugs involving professional escorts. If found guilty on the gravest offenses might have resulted in a life sentence.

When he was acquitted of those accusations, he allegedly fell to his knees to pray. His lawyer commented that he had “been given his life back”.

Likely Penalty

However, the convictions he did receive still each carry a potential of a decade incarcerated under the US Mann Act, which bans moving across state borders to arrange commercial sex.

The government characterize the behavior as grave offenses, while the legal defense has rejected the accusations as “fallback” charges that ought not to have proceeded.

New Information

Reports suggest that Combs plans to address to the judge ahead of the penalty is pronounced, even though never testifying during the trial.

Through a filing submitted recently, his attorneys asked that he be allowed to show up in “non-prison clothing” at the proceeding, like he had during the court case when he wore informal business attire.

“This court hearing is extremely important for the defendant,” the filing said. “He desires to stand before the judge, address Your Honor, and allocate in the most honorable and proper fashion feasible.”

Proposed Penalties

Various penalties are possible, as the government and defense have submitted proposals guided by federal sentencing rules, while the ultimate ruling rests with the court.

The government is advocating for at least over 11 years behind bars – amounting to 11 years and three months – describing Combs “unrepentant” and pointing out threats and aggression that testifiers described.

The defense team are seeking a maximum of 14 months, which with time already served would allow Combs to be released by the close of 2025. They argue that his sentence has already served as sufficient for what they say was consensual sex with compensated companions.

Sentencing officials, in the meantime, calculated that the recommended sentencing range might amount to a maximum of 87 months.
